I moved to Newcastle during Summer/18 and it’s been a personal mission to find the best pizza place the city has to offer. I am a full time foodie, who loves going out to new restaurants, cafes and pubs to collect a map of the best places to eat around me. Date night? I know where to go. Girls night? I have it sorted ladies. Quick lunch before a lecture? I got you covered girl.
But pizza…PIZZA ladies and gents is a different ball game. Pizza is definitely my favourite type of food and I took great pleasure in hunting down only the best places for a pizza feast.
And the search ladies and gentlemen is finally over (I mean I’m still going to keep trying new pizza restaurants), however for now I have my heart on this particular pizza parlour.
The Herb Garden.
I would much prefer going to a quirky little restaurant, than a fake, chain restaurant. In my experience smaller, unique places put more effort and care into their food, customer service and every customer’s overall experience.
Unique. Quirky. These are just two words I would use to describe The Herb Garden….
I absolutely adore the decor and layout of this place; the key feature being vast paper lanterns covering the ceiling. There are wooden benches and tables patterned across the room for guests, with contrasting metallic features over the walls. There are hand written special boards which really ties together the unique feel of the place.
But on to more exciting matters…aka the food.
Obviously from the title of this post you can deduct that I love their pizza. And you’re not wrong. The stone baked, crisp base of their pizzas are gorgeous, not to mention the options of pizza toppings. I have never found a place that does a more interesting menu in terms of toppings. Forget your standard pepperoni, they have a selection of cured meats, smoked cheese etc etc. A pizza for everyone to try and fall in love with.
I got a pizza topped with spinach, pecorino cheese, olives, mushrooms, tomato and mozzarella.
Obviously, they also do other foodie options if you don’t fancy a pizza- I personally cannot relate to that feeling.
I really hope that my pictures and words have been enough to persuade you to give this unique place a chance to prove what good pizza actually is. Look out Dominos…
I will leave the address here for all you keen foodies up north: 8 Westgate Road, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 1SA
